Mr. Alfred Perry "Al" Tetterton, 86, died Thursday, June 26, 2014. The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Stan Asby. Burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park with Military Honors.
Mr. Tetterton was born Sept. 30, 1927 in Pitt County and was a graduate of Bethel High School. A veteran of World War II (1945) and the Korean Conflict (1950), he served in the U. S. Army Air Corps. He attended Peters School of Audiology in Washington, D.C. and owned and operated Tetterton Jewelry Store in downtown Greenville, retiring in 1992. He was a lifetime member of Sweet Gum Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
He was a 32nd degree mason, a past master, an active member of William Pitt Masonic Lodge #734, A.F. & A.M. of The York Rite Bodies, and was a past captain of Provost Guard Unit of Sudan Temple of New Bern where he retired with 25 years. He was Who's - Who of Greenville in 1973.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Burnett and Margaret Cayton Tetterton; three brothers, George, Orlander "Bud" Wendell and Benjamin "BB" Tetterton.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Pauline R. Newton Tetterton; sons, Alfred "Al" Tetterton Jr. and wife, Debbie, of Winterville and Danny Tetterton and fiancee, Marilyn, of Charleston, S.C.; stepdaughter, Margo N. Daniels and husband, Randolph, of Rocky Mount; three grandsons, Eric and Christopher Tetterton, and Donnie Daniels and wife, Missy; two granddaughters, Dawn Crocker and husband, Ron and Sandy Adams and husband, Greg; five great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ruggles T. Rollins of Bethel; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sweet Gum Grove Free Will Baptist Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 156, Stokes, NC 27884.
