Mr. Charles Mitchel "Mitch" Turner Jr., 70, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014. The funeral service will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Al Davis. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.

Mitch, born on Dec. 4, 1943, in Durham was the only son of the late Charles Mitchel Turner Sr. and Lettie Mae Green Turner. A veteran of the United States Army (SP5) during the Vietnam War, he served in Banmethuot, Vietnam (March 67-March 68). He was a 1970 graduate of East Carolina University and worked in pharmaceutical sales, retiring after 20 years of service. Mitch was a founding member of Unity Free Will Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
In addition to his parents, Mitch was preceded in death by his older sister, Sherry Turner Edwards of Asheboro.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carolyn Haddock Turner; sons, Charles Mitchel Turner III "Scotty" and wife, Terrie Harris Turner, of Greenville, Michael Wayne Turner and wife, Tressa Schmid Turner, of Charlotte, and Daniel Allen Turner, of Greenville; grandchildren, Elizabeth Celeste Turner Shear and husband, Kyle, Megan Nicole Turner, all of Greenville, Dynah Lee Turner and Miranda Greer Turner, both of Charlotte, Charles Mitchel Turner IV and Harrison Woodrow Turner, both of Greenville, Georgia Mae Turner, of Charlotte, Elena Carolyn Turner of Greenville, and Violet Elizabeth Turner of Charlotte; sisters, June T. Cousins and husband, John, of Greenville, S.C. and Becky T. Estes and husband Tom, of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times prior to the service at the home of Scotty and Terrie Turner, 505 Ashburton Drive, Greenville.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Disabled American Veterans, Pitt County Chapter 37, 2805 Cemetery Road, Greenville, NC 27858 or to the Autism Society of North Carolina, 505 Oberlin Road, Suite 230, Raleigh, NC 27605-1345.
