WALSTONBURG - David Harold Bailey, 93, of Walstonburg went to heaven to meet our Lord and Savior on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014. He was born in Walstonburg to the late George Washington Bailey and Pearl Smith Bailey on Sept. 8, 1920. Harold was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years Hetty Green Bailey.
He is survived by his son George Herbert Bailey and wife, Willa of Walstonburg. He had two grandchildren, Rhett Ashley Bailey and wife, Ellen, and Lauren Bailey Gray and husband, Matt all of Raleigh; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter Russell Gray and Davis Harold Bailey. He is also survived by two sisters, Allene Parker of Camden, S.C., and Rayonell Rose of Princeton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Harold was a proud World War II Veteran where he received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was an alumnus of UNC Chapel Hill, a retiree of the Internal Revenue Service, the mayor of "North Walstonburg," an avid reader and gardener as well as active in his community by serving on several local boards and committees.
Visitation will be held from 1 – 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday at the Farmville United Methodist Church and with service following at 2 p.m.; a private committal will be held at an earlier time.
