AYDEN - Mr. Horace Thomas Jr., 82, died Saturday, April 26, 2014. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Estates, Grifton.
Mr. Thomas was born in the Pollocksville community of Jones County and served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and the Korean Conflict. For more than 30 years he was employed with Harris Teeter, formerly Harris Supermarket, as a manager. Mr. Thomas was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Thomas; and a sister, Olivia Toler.
Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Rose Evans Thomas; son, Milton Bryant Thomas and wife, Brenda Carol, of Newport; daughter, Brenda W. Riggs of Sharpsburg; five sisters, Verdie Taggart and husband, Miles, and Vera Stern, all of Utah, Demetris Cumbo and husband, Donald, of Jacksonville, Marilyn Bond of Utah and Autry Shavender and husband, Earl, of Bath; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home tonight from 6 – 8.
