Larry Carl Whitlow, 69, of Atlantic Beach, formerly of Greenville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at Harborview of Morehead City. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Jasper Whitlow and father, William Carl Whitlow.

Mr. Whitlow served in the Naval Reserves and the Army. He was president and owner of Larry's Carpetland in Greenville from 1968 - 2008. He was also the owner of Larry's Carpet One store in Morehead City from 1990 to 2008. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Morehead City. Larry was very civic minded and volunteered with the Jaycees, Pirates Club, Shriners, Elks Lodge and many other organizations as well as served as President of Retail Flooring Association. He also had a deep love for the water, zest for life and always had a terrific outlook on life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joy West Whitlow; daughter, Lisa Whitlow Batts and husband, James Batts Jr. of Raleigh; sons, Randolph L. Whitlow of Greenville, and Jason S. Whitlow and wife, Jessica, of Corapeake; sister, Patsy Cannon of Newport; grandson, Eli Whitlow of Corapeake; as well as his loving and faithful dog, Buddy. He is also survived by nephews, Reggie Cannon of Morehead City and Ricky Cannon of Lafayette, La.
The family will receive friends at Munden's Funeral Home in Morehead City tonight from 6 to 8. The memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Morehead City on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Carteret County, PO Drawer 1619, Morehead City, NC 28557.
