Michael Lee Simmons passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at his home on Trail's End. He was the beloved son and only child of Mike and Joye Simmons. Michael was born developmentally disabled, attended special ed class throughout his school years. However, he refused to be classified as someone with special needs, and was quick to let his teachers know. His dream was to have his own business in sales. His backpack was always loaded with books on how to run your own business

He was involved in Special Olympics and was a member of Aktion Club of Eastern NC, a Kiwanis community club for adults with disabilities. He served as a project manager and was always full of ideas. A memorial to him can be viewed at myaktionclub.com
With his heart of gold, infectious laugh and big smile, Michael never met a stranger. He had something to say to everyone he met and was a familiar sight around Greenville riding on his scooter.
An informal gathering in Michael's memory for friends and family will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Eastern Pines Fire and Rescue Department.
