Myrl Edwin Newman, 91, of Ayden passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, July 9, 2014. A former resident of Lenoir County, he was born on Nov. 25, 1922, the son of Joseph and Hazel Newman in Glasgow, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Doris Louise Sutton Newman; and brothers, Marvin and Elmo. Myrl was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army Air Corps. He later went to work for the Department of Transportation from which he retired after 34 years.
He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Linneman of Salisbury, Mo.; sons, Joe and wife Kim, of Winnabow, Jim and wife, Phyllis, of Ayden, and Bill and wife, Renne, of Beaufort; as well as eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The visitation will be held at Edwards Funeral Home in Kinston, on Saturday at 2 p.m. with a service at 3 p.m. The burial will be immediately following at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
