GRIMESLAND - Mr. Robert Hamilton, 87, died Saturday, January 18, 2014.
The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 2 pm in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Hamilton, a native of Wake County, was a longtime resident of Pitt County. A veteran of the United States Army, he served during World War II. He was employed with Norfolk-Southern Railroad as a Track Foreman, retiring in 1986 after 35 years of service. He was a member of Lifegate Baptist Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Elsie M. Hamilton; great grandson, Ryker David-Lee Hamilton; sister, Dorothy Williams; and a brother, George Hamilton.
He is survived by his sons, (Col. Ret.) Robert Lee Hamilton Jr. and wife, Sandra, of Rocky Mount, Tony Ray Hamilton of Grimesland and Terry Wayne Hamilton and wife, Liz, of Grimesland; daughter, Patricia Hamilton, of Grimesland; four grandchildren, Danielle Hamilton, of Rocky Mount, Ryan Hamilton, of Yorktown, VA, Corey Hamilton and wife, Sarah, of Greenville and Kaitlyn Hamilton, of Goldsboro; great-grandchild, Jaylen Xaiver Crowley; and a brother, Eugene Hamilton, of Greenville.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
