FAIRFAX, VA. - Vivian Ann Rivers ended her long, brave battle with breast cancer at Fairfax Hospital, in Fairfax on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014. Born April 8, 1948 in Ayden, N.C., she spent her early years in Winterville, N.C., moving to Washington, DC after graduating from Winterville High School. There she met the love of her life John, with whom she spent 44 years in a marriage most people dream of together.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Maria Smith; and brother, Allen.
She is survived by her husband John; son, Michael and wife, Carey, of Raleigh, N.C.; three grandchildren (who were the light of her life,) Jackson, Hampton, and Presley; and a sister, Frances Meadows of Greenville, N.C. with whom she had a special bond and who held a special place in her heart.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Rd., Fairfax, on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, from 11 a.m. until the celebration of Vivian's life begins at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest at a later date.
