Jon Jacobson, of Eugene, died peacefully on Aug. 15 in Newport. He was 75.
Jon was born on April 6, 1939, in Algona, Iowa, to Marvin and Pearle Jacobson. On June 5, 1963, he married Mary A. Sorensen, who died in 2011.
He graduated with bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Iowa. For more than three decades, he was a professor at the University of Oregon School of Law, where he founded the Ocean and Coastal Law Center. He was twice a Fulbright scholar at the University of Oslo's Scandinavian Institute of Marine Law and served as editor of a leading marine affairs journal. He retired in 1999.
Jon is survived by two sons, Ben of Portland and Joel of Sendai, Japan; a daughter, Karin Jacobson Brulliard of Washington, DC; a sister, Phyllis Holmes of Phoenix, AZ; a brother, Marvin Jacobson of Spirit Lake, Iowa; and four grandchildren, Erik, Lars, Carsten and Elsa.
A private inurnment will be held at Central Lutheran Columbarium. A memorial service and reception will be held at Central Lutheran Church in Eugene on Aug. 24th at 2 p.m. Donations can be made to the University of Oregon Robert D. Clark Honors College.
