Jacqueline Elliott Obituary
Jacqueline J. Elliott died peacefully on March 5, 2014. She was born on October 4th, 1932 to Kathryn and Gerald Elliott of Ft.Collins and attended school in Ft.Collins, graduating from Ft.Collins High School in 1950. Choosing a career in education, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education from Colorado state College of Education, Greeley, a Master of Arts from the State University of Iowa in Physical Education, a Master of Arts in Guidance and Counseling from Colorado State College, and a administrative certification from Hayward State University, Hayward, Ca. Her career in education spanned 38 years. The first 3 were spent in Monterey, Ca. and the remainder in the Acalanes High School District, Walnut Creek, Ca. She began in girls physical education, moved to guidance and counseling, became vice principal and then director of special education and pupil services. She retired in 1992 and was so appreciated for her ability to make a difference in young lives. Jackie returned to Colorado 19 years ago and settled in Loveland with Karen Stopher, her friend of 61 years. Their friendship began when Jackie worked in the summer months at Steads Ranch Resort in RockyMountainNational Park, owned and operated by the Stopher family. She did a variety of jobs and forever cherished those magical summers in the park. She is co-author of a book Between the Moraines ; a historical memoir of "the ranch". From 2007 to2012 Jackie served on the Loveland Human Resources Commission whose mission is to elicit, review and make recommendations for the funding of Human service grants to nonprofit agencies serving the citizens of Loveland. The last two years of her term she served as chairperson; she was dedicated, confident, and with a broad knowledge of the community and the needs of the citizens. She is survived in death by her brother Jerry Elliott and his wife Carol of Wellington, her lifelong friend Karen, her cousin Hal Spurrier and his wife Nancy of Lincoln, Ne. and one of her beloved Australian Shepherds, "JEF" (Jackie Elliott's Folly). A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be sent to Pathways Hospice.
