Sgt. James "OJ" Alvarado May 1, 1986-June 1, 2014 28, of California (formerly of Greeley) James "OJ" Alvarado was born May 1, 1986 to Ignacio "Nacho" Alvarado and Lori "Kitty" (Snyder) Alvarado in Greeley, CO. OJ left earth to be with our heavenly Father and earned his angel wings on June 1, 2014 in Mission Viejo, CA. OJ was born and raised in Greeley, graduating from Greeley Central in 2004, where he lettered in football, wrestling, baseball, and track and field. In November 2007, OJ enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After graduating from boot camp in February 2008, he joined 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines (2/1) Weapons Company at Camp Pendleton in California. Then on January 17, 2009, he married his soul mate and beautiful wife Traci Schleiger of Loveland, CO. In September 2009, they welcomed their beautiful baby girl Codi into the world. OJ continued his career with the Marines which included two overseas combat tours; his first to Iraq in 2009 and the second to Afghanistan in 2011. Up until the time of his passing, OJ was a Sgt. with The School of Infantry (SOI) West MCT Battalion as a combat instructor. OJ enjoyed many things in life, but first and foremost was his family. He enjoyed riding his Harleys, grilling, camping and hunting. OJ is survived by his wife Traci; daughter Codi and unborn son Abel; his Parents, Ignacio "Nacho" Alvarado and Lori "Kitty" Alvarado (fiancé Cody Vasquez); Grandparents Ramon and Lupe Alvarado, all of Greeley; Grandmother Lovena (Richard) Young, Jacksonville, FL; Sister and Brother-in-law Justine (Troy) Tucker; nephew Kaden and unborn nice Kearsten, Kersey, CO; along with several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather Herbert Smith; Great-Grandmothers Lupe Pisaña and Valeria Alvarado; and his best friend Cody Fisher. A visitation viewing will be from 5-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Greeley, CO. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:00 PM. Wednesday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Celebration of Life will be at the American Legion Post 109, 624 Ash, Windsor, CO immediately following the service.
