Joan Barnes Leslie passed away on April 10th, 2013 at age 82, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Framingham, Massachusetts on September 12, 1930. She graduated from Simmons College, in Boston, in 1952, majoring in dietetics.
She attended the University of Colorado School of Medicine as a dietary intern in 1953. It was there she met her future husband, Bob Leslie. Joan & Bob were married in 1954. In 1956 they moved to Minneapolis where Bob attended the University of Minnesota completing a residency in orthopedic surgery. During these years Joan worked as a hospital dietitian.
Joan & Bob lived in Edina, Minnesota for many years during which time they had four children. Joan was a full time housewife while the children were young, but later became a travel agent. During these years she traveled extensively, both domestically, and internationally, and visited many cities around the world. Many times she took Bob with her. She had a great sense of adventure. She worked for many years as a hospital volunteer; she enjoyed gardening, a wide circle of friends, and whatever interested her children.
Bob retired from his medical practice in 1993, and they purchased a home in Scottsdale, Arizona. For several years they spent their winters in Arizona and their summers at a lake cottage in Wisconsin. In 2003 they purchased a home in Loveland, Colorado near Mariana Butte, and then divided their time between Arizona and Colorado.
In 2009 they moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, residing at MacKenzie Place. Joan moved to Centre Avenue Health and Rehab in July of 2012
Joan is survived by husband, Bob; children: Steven (Cathy) of Thornton, Colorado; Gregg (Therese) of La Costa, California; Lynn Abbott (Tim) of Fort Collins, Colorado ; and Scott (Daniela) of Palo Verde Estates, California; and brother, Richard Barnes of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She has six grandchildren: Elissa and Lauren Abbott, Michael Leslie, Keegan Leslie, and Micah and Vanessa Leslie.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
