Kenneth Ludwick Obituary
Ken Ludwick, 80, a long time resident of Loveland, passed away on July 29 in Lake Placid FL. He was born January 18, 1934 to Clarence and Mary Ludwick at his Grandparents house in Byers CO. He grew up in Deer Trail on his father's ranch. He graduated from Deer Trail High School. At 16 years old he started driving a truck and combine for Forest Roop (Paddy's dad). They travelled all summer harvesting wheat in CO and KS. When his class of 14 graduated from Deer Trail high school, Ken went to Colorado A&M and majored in Animal Husbandry. He was the first person in his family to go to college. He told the grandchildren that his parents dropped him off at school with no money and certainly no car. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and married Paddy the summer between his junior and senior year. Their 60th wedding anniversary would have been this month. After graduation he and Paddy continued the family tradition of farming when they bought a dairy in Ft Lupton. He was Farmer of the Year during this time. Eventually he accepted a great job opportunity to be a salesman for Proctor and Gamble in Scottsbluff NE and then Ft Collins, CO. After 10 years of living in town and travelling, he and Paddy went back into farming and bought Loveland Turf Farm and the Limousin cattle. When the kids were in 4H he was on the Larimer County Fair Board and supported the Catch a Calf program as part of the Beef Eaters. He was president of the Larimer County cattleman's association and a member of the Elks lodge. The cattle business and skiing in Steamboat were always family activities. The family worked together and played together. Their condo in Steamboat was a place where they entertained many of the kids' friends in addition to their own friends. Ken and Paddy also owned flea markets and the Madison Avenue Carwash. A year ago they moved to Florida to be near Sandy. They had 3 children. Sandy currently lives in Okeechobee, Florida, with her husband Tom and their 2 children. Steve passed away in 2008. He had 2 children Amanda and Emily and they are both living in Billings, Montana. David currently lives in Greeley with his wife Gari Lee and their two children. Ken is survived by his wife, Paddy, 2 children - Sandy Steinruck and David Ludwick, and 6 grandchildren - Amanda Ludwick, Emily Ludwick, Kelly Steinruck, Tommy Steinruck, Garrett Ludwick, and Hanna Ludwick, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Steve Ludwick, his parents, Clarence and Mary Ludwick, and his sister Anita Price. Memorial Services Wednesday 2pm at Viegut Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CSU Animal Science department.
