Mary Ann Harrison passed away August 18 in her home at Spanish Trails in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. She was 82 years old. Mary was born in Torrington, Wyoming in 1931 to Chester Stoner and Blanche Newell Stoner. She spent her childhood in Wyoming, New Mexico and Colorado. Mary and her mother moved to Loveland when Mary was a teen while Chet was working on the Alcan Highway in Alaska. Mary graduated from Loveland High School and then moved to Denver. She pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse, attended St. Luke's School of Nursing and then University of Denver. Mary married Jack Harrison and lived in Denver for several years before returning to Loveland. She worked for the Thompson R2J School district and was known by many as "the nurse". She loved working with children, was instrumental in developing many health screening programs as well as health education programs for students of all ages. After retirement, she worked with Larimer County Hospice and enjoyed that very much as well. Mary loved her family, her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her so much joy. She delighted in watching them and hearing their laughter. She also travelled extensively, and of course those who knew her well, knew of her love for shopping! Mary moved to Corpus Christi, Texas to be closer to her family several years ago and then recently relocated with Karen and Mark to Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Even though she was a Texan for many years, her heart remained in Loveland. She is survived by her daughter, Karen and her husband Mark Smith. She is also survived by her grandson Greg Smith, his wife Ashley and great grandson Mark, granddaughter Jodie Edwards, her husband Mike and great grandsons Shawn and Collin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chet and Blanche Stoner, her former husband, Jack Harrison and daughter Terri Lyn. Services will be held in Loveland, Colorado at Viegut Funeral Home on Friday, September 6, 2013, 1:00 P.M. Interment will be at Loveland Burial Park with a reception following at the Embassy Suites in Loveland. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be directed to the Mary Harrison/Karen Smith Endowed Scholarship Fund in Nursing at Texas A & M University, Corpus Christi, 6300 Ocean Drive, Unit 5741, Corpus Christi, TX 78412.
