Robert attended Thatcher, Grant Junior High, and South High School; the University of Denver, earning a B.A. and M.L.S. degrees; Drew University, Bachelor of Divinity and Ph.D degrees.
While serving in the Navy during World War II he felt called to ministry. He was ordained in the New York Conference of the Methodist Church and served churches there and in Ohio, Wyoming and Colorado.
He loved a challenge and learning new things. He was a biblical scholar of Greek and worked as a research associate at the American Bible Society. While there he worked on the 1966 edition of the Greek New Testament. Later, he taught at Salem College, Messiah College and Aims Community College. He was a reference librarian and micrographics specialist at the University of Northern Colorado. He compiled topographic maps for UNC and later donated them to the Loveland Public Library. A prolific writer, he wrote and published many professional papers and articles, including one on the Dead Sea Scrolls. He was director of preservation at the American Theological Library Association in Chicago before retiring.
