Abilene, TX

Richard Gregg Verner, 68, of Abilene passed away Monday, August 26, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center, Hospice Unit. Cremains will be interred in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Abilene, Texas under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde.

Richard was born June 29, 1946 in Abilene to Charlie and Ernestine Verner. He served in the

U. S. Navy from November 4, 1965 to October 21, 1969; serving during the Vietnam War. Richard worked for Timex, was a roughneck in the oilfield and was in construction most of his life.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ernestine Verner. He was survived by his son, Christopher Wayne Verner of Brownwood; brothers and sister-in-laws, Robert and Jackie Verner of Waco, Michael Verner and Melissa Wade of Abilene, Dale and Sandra Verner of Oregon, Randy and Donna Verner of Abilene and Thomas Verner of Abilene; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Dewayne Moore of Whitehouse; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and longtime girlfriend Terry Lumadue.
