Donald Ray "Chief" Hood, 62, of Kingston, passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, in Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Miss.

He attended Potter's House Fellowship. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he worked at Roane County Courthouse as a court officer. He was a former Roane County chief deputy, captain of the Rescue Squad and employee of TVA, worked in the emergency management field and was an active member of the Defender's LEMC. He was preceded in death by father, Thomas Hood; mother, Marie Hood Proctor; stepfather, Russell Proctor; and mother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Woody.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Debbie Hood, Kingston; son, Donald Ray Hood Jr. (Kelly), White Bluff, Tenn.; daughter, Ashley Smith (Kevin), Kingston; granddaughter, Emerson Elizabeth Smith; sister, Carolyn Burton, Dickson; father-in-law, Don Woody, Kingston; brother-in-law, Mike Woody (Dottie), Kingston; nieces, nephews and many cherished family and friends whom he loved.
Funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, in Kyker Funeral Home chapel, Kingston, with the Rev. Kyle Beverly officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Kingston Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Potter's House Africa Feeding, 319 Roddy Lane, Harriman, TN 37748.
