Marian "Marnie" Deardorff Swank Shields, 98, of Kingston, passed away at home early Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014.

Marian, the daughter of Glenn and Maude Swank of Galva, Ill., was born in Knox County, Ill., on May 19, 1916. She graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. During the 1960s-'70s, she taught elementary school and junior high school science in Kingston schools and is remembered by many for her leaf and flower book assignments. She was married to Randall Powers Shields from 1941 until his death in 1999. They had three daughters, Micalyn "Micki" Deardorff Shields, Marcia Katherine Shields Young and Glenna Shields Herrenbruck.
Marian is survived by her daughter, Glenna, Alexandria, Va., grandson, Glenn Connor Tepel. Herndon, Va.; granddaughters. Laurie Storie (Leon), Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Sarah Thomas (Daniel), Montevallo, Ala..; great-granddaughter, Amelia Katherine Thomas; and stepgreat-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Lydia Storie.
In addition to her husband, Randall, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Micalyn and Marcia.
A funeral service conducted by the Rev. Wendy Neff will be in Bethel Presbyterian Church, 203 S. Kentucky St., Kingston, at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16. Interment will be at Kingston Memorial Gardens.
