On Thursday, December 27, 2012, Heaven's Gate opened wide to welcome a true Hero, Frank Tyler (Buster or Buck) Thomas, 93, of Montvale. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater, a retired truck driver with Jones Motor Lines, and a retired School Bus Driver with the Bedford County Schools.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Ave Thomas; stepmother, Mamie Thomas; brother, O.L. Thomas; sister, Virginia Anders; and a special aunt, Ida Turner.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Hazel M. Thomas; four children and spouses, James Thomas, Donna Thomas, Teresa Andrews, and Darrell Thomas; nine grandchildren including a special caregiver, Billi Jo Asbury; 17 great- grandchildren including his best buddy, Dylan Fink; two sisters, Irene Webster and Beverlyne Prillaman; and numerous nieces and nephews including Jerry, Barry, and Benny Webster.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to the doctors and nurses on the 10th floor of the Palliative Care Unit at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for the care given to Frank and his family.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Oakey's East Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Prillaman Family Cemetery in Callaway with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy.
