Henry Carl Barnard, of Covington, and The Springs Nursing Center, Hot Springs, passed away Monday, June 10, 2013, at Bath County Hospital in Hot Springs. Born October 6, 1920, in Roanoke, he was a son of the late Elijah Howard Barnard and Blanche Clifton Turner Barnard.

He proudly served his country in the United States Marines during World War II. He retired as a sales representative for Sysco Frozen Foods in Roanoke. After retirement he drove the Covington High School activities bus for several years. He was a faithful member of South Covington United Methodist Church, where he served and held many offices, including Lay Speaker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Floyd Barnard in 1999; a sister, Ruth G. Lemon; and five brothers, Oscar H. Barnard, Robert C. Barnard, W. Gordon Barnard, Ernest H. Barnard, and Edgar L. Barnard Sr.
Surviving are two sons, Willard H. Barnard and wife, Harriet, of Buchanan, Paul H. Barnard and wife, Joy, of Vinton; and a daughter, Phyllis B. Price and husband, David, of Roanoke; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and a special niece, Sue Brinkley.
Abiding by his wishes, his body has been donated to the Commonwealth of Virginia Anatomical Program in Richmond.
Memorial tributes in Henry's name may be made to South Covington United Methodist Church, 1900 Kadel Avenue, Covington, VA 24426. A memorial service will be held at South Covington United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2013.
