NEEDHAM BRYANT (N.B.) DOZIER, JR., 96, died on September 24, 2013. He was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on October 5, 1916, the son of the late Ruth Evans Dozier and Needham Bryant Dozier, Sr.
Mr. Dozier had been an active member of First United Methodist Church in Rocky Mount for over eighty-five years since joining the church in 1927. In addition to the many roles he had in the local church, he served on both the World Service Commission and the Board of Education of the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Mr. Dozier graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School in 1932 and from North Carolina State University in 1936. He retired in 1978 as owner and operator of Dozier Supply Company, a local building supply firm that he operated with his father from 1940 until his father's death in 1971.
Among his numerous other civic activities, he was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce for many years and received its Distinguished Service Award in 1952. He had been an active member of the Rocky Mount Kiwanis Club since 1952.
Mr. Dozier was a World War II veteran with the rank of Lt. Senior Grade in the Supply Corps of the U.S. Navy. His service included North Africa, the European Theater, and Omaha Beach in France.
Mr. Dozier was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Robbie Walker Dozier, in 1998. He is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Grissim Dozier of Durham, N.C.; two sons, Lewis Bryant Dozier (Rosalyn Skelton Dozier) of Vienna, Va., and Robert Evans Dozier (Linda Fletcher Dozier) of McLean, Va.; and four grandchildren, Robyn Anne Dozier, Keith Westmoreland Dozier, Claire Elaine Dozier, and Evan Walker Dozier.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p. m. on September 28, 2013, at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Thomas Greener officiating. Following the funeral, a graveside service will be held at Pineview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the church annex beginning at 1 p. m.
