NASHVILLE - Walton Heath Hinson, 87, was welcomed into the arms of God on April 25, 2014. He was born on October 19, 1926 and a WWII veteran serving primarily with the 95th Division. Heath was preceded in death by his parents, Chauncey Depew Hinson and Carrie Mae Griffin Hinson; his wife, Doris Ann Black Hinson; a brother, Everett Hinson; and his daughter, Jackie Hinson Purgason. He is survived by a sister Doris Hinson Bush and husband CR; a brother Laurin Hinson and wife Atha Mae; and his children Eric Hinson and wife Davaina of Bowling Green, VA; Bennett Hinson and wife Cyndi of Garner, NC; Kenneth Hinson of Miami, FL; Bryon Hinson and wife Karen of Charlotte, NC; Ronald Hinson of Charlotte, NC; Margaret Hinson Patterson and husband Randy of Fuqua-Varina, NC; and Alan Hinson of Raleigh, NC. He leaves behind 10 Grandchildren and 6 Great-grandchildren.
Heath graduated from North Carolina State University. He was an active and founding member of Rock Creek Baptist Church, Nashville, NC; a leader in the Boy Scouts of America earning the Silver and Golden Beaver awards for over 50 years of service: a Master Mason with 57 years of service; an active member of the American Legion: and an active member of the Lions Club. Heath served in several public positions as a member of the Nashville Town Council, Board of Directors member, and a Kentucky Colonel. He was actively involved in activities that supported veterans and others, both locally and through various charities.
Funeral services will be held at the Rock Creek Baptist Church on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 3 pm with visitation preceding from 1 to 3 pm. Burial will be at the New Hope Baptist Church in Monroe, NC next to his parents on Saturday, May 3, 2014 following a family graveside service at 11:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Rock Creek Baptist Church, American Legion, Lions Club, and Boy Scouts of America.
