POULTNEY - Allen D. Fortier, 83, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at his home following a period of failing health.

He was born Oct. 26 1930, in Waterbury, Conn., the son of the late Oscar E. and Mary Elizabeth (Camron) Fortier.

He was a retired truck driver for Whipple Transportation. He had served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Mr. Fortier was a member of American Legion Post 50 of Castleton, the Eagles of Fair Haven, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Young at Heart Senior Center.

He was a Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed NASCAR.

Survivors include his wife, Linda VanLew of Poultney; a son Frank E. Fortier of Irvine, Calif.; a daughter, Connie Munukka of Derby; two stepsons, James Shaw of North Granville and Mark Shaw of Rutland; two stepdaughters, Lisa Bizon of Hubbardton and Melissa Morgan of Fair Haven; a brother, Oscar E. Fortier of California; three sisters, Elizabeth of Florida, Mary Katherine of Florida and Rita of Hampton, N.Y.; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and one great-grandson.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by three brothers, Frank E., John T. and Lewis C. Fortier; and a sister, Elaine G. Hutchins.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2014, at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, 266 Allen Ave., Poultney. The Rev. Marshall Hudson-Knapp will officiate.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph.
