SHELBURNE - Edgar J. Matteson Jr., 69, formerly of North Bennington, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at his home in Shelburne.He was born June 6, 1943, in Bennington, the son of Edgar and Katherine (Muntz) Matteson Sr.

He played basketball and baseball in high school, and received a scholarship to Dartmouth College. In 1966, following an injury that halted his sports career, he transferred to the University of Vermont where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology.

He moved to New York City and began a career in the media industry, working for Nielson Ratings and NBC as an advertising executive. After nearly a decade, he returned to Vermont and continued with advertising and sales, then with area newspapers, retiring in 2007.

He enjoyed cooking and was a Yankees fan.

He was a Mason, a Shriner, and a member of both the Lions and Rotary clubs.

Survivors include his wife, Leah M. Matteson; four sons, Jonathan Cristaldi, Steven Cristaldi, Patrick Cristaldi, and Cristopher Matteson; three grandchildren; a sister, Marian F. Matteson; a brother, Gary Matteson; three nieces and two nephews.

Graveside committal services will be held June 1, 2013, at 12 noon at Grandview Cemetery in North Bennington.
