He received his dental degree from Tufts School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA, in 1974 after a year of graduate school at Harvard University.

Greg practiced general dentistry for 30 years in Rutland, VT. He belonged to the Grace Congregational Church in Rutland. Greg married Diane Bean Joseph in 1975 in Topsfield, MA. They lived in Pittsford and Chittenden, VT for 35 years before moving to Sunapee, NH in 2011. After Greg became seriously ill in 2004, he beat the odds and returned to dentistry in pediatrics for 3 years in Claremont, NH. His interest in boating peaked again on Lake Sunapee.
