SPRINGFIELD - John Anthony Fortunato, 68, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at his home.

He was born April 30, 1945, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Michael and Lucy (Tempera) Fortunato.

He graduated in 1962 from John Jay High School in Brooklyn and later, from the IBM school for technicians.

Mr. Fortunato married Cathi Dunderman in 1966; they divorced in 1994. He later married Marianne Marolda on March 13, 1999, in River Edge, N.J.

He was a drummer for The Manhattans and worked for the Port Authority as a runway flagger in earlier years. He was later employed as an electrician with Lipton Co. in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., and then as a division manager for Electrolux, retiring to Vermont.

He volunteered for the town of Englewood Cliffs, N.J., as a firefighter, including serving as chief, and also for the Holy Trinity Youth Group.

Mr. Fortunato enjoyed fishing, cooking, sports, and was a New York Mets fan.

Survivors include his wife; two children, Steven Fortunato of Fort Lee, N.J., and Dianne Braatz of Stamford, Conn.; three stepsons, William Marolda of Pompton Plains, N.J., Mark Marolda of Hawthorne, N.J., and Jim Marolda of Wayne, N.J.; two grandsons, and seven granddaughters; a foster brother, Victor Lopez of Staten Island, N.Y.; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Peter Fortunato, and a foster sister, Marilyn Lopez.

In Springfield, the funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiated by the Rev. Peter Williams, pastor, and followed by a reception from 2 to 5 p.m. at United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of Vt. & N.H., PO Box 976, White River Junction, VT 05001.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
