WHITEHALL, N.Y. - John J. Pinkowski, 88, of County Route 12, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Granville, following a short illness.

He was born July 30, 1925, in North Poultney, Vermont, the son of the late John and Antoinette (Mikus) Pinkowski.
John ran a dairy farm in Whitehall for 20 years, and then retired from Washington County Highway Department after 35 years of service.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church.
He was a lifetime member of the B.P.O.E. #1491 of Whitehall. John was very active in the Elks and participated in many of the Elks' charities and held the office of Tiler for 30 years. He was a member of the Modern Woodman in Wells, Vermont, Whitehall Fish & Game Club, Knights of Columbus #333 of Ticonderoga, and the Moose Lodge in Rutland, Vermont.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and going on trips.
Beside his parents, he is predeceased by five brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy (Currier) Pinkowski of Whitehall, and several nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and cousins.
Family and friends may call at Jillson Funeral Home Inc., 46 Williams Street, Whitehall, on Thursday, February 6, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Whitehall B.P.O.E. Lodge #1491 will conduct a Lodge of Sorrow at 7:45 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 7, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church in Whitehall, with the Rev. Rendell Torres, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in the spring in West Rutland, Vermont.
