BENNINGTON - Joseph A. Mayer Jr., 57, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, in Bennington.

He was born in Bennington on Jan. 3, 1956, the son of Theresa (McKenna) and Joseph A. Mayer Sr.

He received his education in Bennington schools and attended college in St. Johnsbury.

Mr. Mayer served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the 1970s.

For many years, he worked as a steel fabricator at Bennington Iron Works and was known as a jack of all trades.

He was a member of the Hoosick Falls Eagles Club.

Mr. Mayer enjoyed boating, fishing, camping and singing.

Survivors include his wife, Lori Mayer, and his father, both of Bennington; eight children, Stephanie Gates, Laci Mayer, Zachery Rose, all of Bennington, Theresa Mayer of Albany, N.Y., Robert Floreo, McKenzie Gallant, both of Pownal, Timothy Mayer of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and Audrey Mayer of Schenectady, N.Y.; many grandchildren; a brother, Dale Mayer of Pownal; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his mother and a brother, Timothy Mayer.

Friends and family may call from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at North Bennington Fire House.
