BENSON - Judith Mary Lowell, 74, a longtime resident of Benson, died February 4, 2014, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington.

She was born May 14, 1939, in Rutland, the daughter of H. Robert and Thelma (Lucas) Taggart.

She married Edmond R. Lowell Sr. on June 24, 1972.

Mrs. Lowell had been employed by Tambrands for 20 years, in the cafeteria at Castleton State College, as a custodian at the Benson Village School for 8 years, and by the Rutland Area Visiting Nurses, prior to retiring early to provide childcare to her grandchildren.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and being with her grandchildren. "She lived her life for others."

Mrs. Lowell was a member of the United Church of Benson, and a former member of the Women of Moose and the Eagles Club.

Survivors include her husband, Edmond Lowell Sr. of Benson; three sons, Robert Lowell of Benson and his fiancée, Lori Farley of Essex Jct., Edmond "Pete" Lowell and his wife, Gloria of Benson, and Perry Lowell of Rutland; two daughters, Jean Zimmerman and her husband, Robert of Huntington, and Gail Ryan and her husband, Dan of Benson; a daughter-in-law, Karyn Lowell of Orwell; two sisters, Bobbi Courcelle and her husband, Gerald, and Linda Altobell, all of Rutland; a brother, Andy Cristelli and his wife, Nancy of Mendon; a brother-in-law, Tony Altobell of Rutland; 11 grandchildren, John, Ethan, Althea, Brock, Kayla, Ross, Beau, Chapman, Jennifer, Danyelle and Anthony; 11 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father, mother Thelma Cristelli in 2010, step-father, Fred "Corky" Cristelli, daughter Sally Lowell in 1977, brother Joe Taggart in 1969, and two grandsons, Glenn Lowell in 2012, and Andrew Ryan in 2002.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service

A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Fair View Cemetery in Benson.

Arrangements are with the Durfee Funeral Home.
