SPRINGFIELD - Larry E. Aiken, 83, of Springfield, died Sunday, July 13, 2014, at the Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born April 17, 1931, to James and Elizabeth (Sayah) Aiken in Northfield.

He attended Springfield High School and played for the SHS football team that won the state championship in 1947.

Mr. Aiken served in the Army and received the Occupation of Germany Medal.

He worked as a chef at his brother's ski lodge at Mount Snow, and managed apartment buildings in Springfield.

Mr, Aiken was a member of the Chester American Legion Post 67 and a member of the VFW Post 771 in Springfield.

He was an avid fisherman and a New England Patriots fan.

He is survived by his brother Vernan Aiken, his sister Vivian Grillo, as well as nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014. A service will be held at 11 a.m., officiated by the Rev. Peter Williams at Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

Burial will be at a later date in the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph Center.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Springfield Booster Club, Box 666, Springfield, VT 05156.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
