EWING, N.J. - P. Richardson "Dick" Gale of Ewing, a retired newspaperman, died Saturday, October 5, 2013, at his home.

He was a former editorial page editor of the Hunterdon County Democrat in Flemington, N.J. Before coming to Trenton in 1967, he worked on newspapers in Rochester and Glens Falls, N.Y., Rutland and Bellows Falls, VT, and Fitchburg, MA. As a correspondent for Gannett News Service in Washington, D.C., he covered the Johnson-Goldwater presidential campaign, New York senatorial campaign of Robert F. Kennedy, and New Jersey gubernatorial campaign of Richard J. Hughes.

A graduate of DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, he served in the Army-Air Corps during WWII.

Son of the late Lloyd B. and Hulah Thomas Gale, husband of the late Joan Dwyer Gale, and brother of the late John M. and David M. Gale, he is survived by a son, Robert R. Gale of Lawrenceville; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Bob Kocis of Burlington Township; three granddaughters, Gale (and Steve) Szolomayer, Kathryn and Elizabeth Kocis; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Ave., Ewing on Sunday, October 20, 2013, from 1 until 2 p.m., when the Army Honor Guard will render military honors. Burial in St. Bridget's Cemetery in West Rutland, VT, will be a later date.
