PROCTOR - Peter M. LaValley, 92, of Proctor died November 14, 2013, at Rutland Health Care in Rutland.

He was a graduate of Proctor High School.

After taking a machinist course at Barstow, he worked at Fellows Gear Shaper. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marines during World War II.

He was employed at Vermont Marble Co. and the General Electric Co., retiring in 1985.

He continued working part-time for Stanley Whitney and Robert Dezero until 1997.

Peter enjoyed bowling and served for many years as an officer of the bowling league.

He was the director of the Heritage Family Credit Union.

He and his wife loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas, Bermuda, Santo Domingo and Texas.

He was a past member of the Eagles and Moose clubs, and a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Lewis of Proctor; her two children, Lissa Stratton and Robert Lewis, Jr.; and great-grandsons, William Longley, Michael Stratton and Matthew Stratton.

He was predeceased by his wife, Erma (Kovach) LaValley in 1993; a sister, Gladiola (LaValley) Canning; two brothers, Francis and Elmer LaValley; his son-in-law, Robert Lewis Sr.; and his grandson-in-law, Scott Stratton.

There are no visiting hours.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Dominic's Church in Proctor. Officiating will be the Rev. Michael Ramos.

Burial with military honors will follow in South Street Cemetery.

A reception will follow the graveside service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Contributions may be made to the Activities Fund at Rutland Health Care, 46 Nichols Street, Rutland, VT 05701.

We thank the nurses and caregivers on the third floor for their kindness, generosity and care, not only to Peter, but our entire family. This also includes the receptionist, business office and activities department.
