BENNINGTON - Ronald S. Stratton, 64, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at his residence.He was born Dec. 20, 1948, in Pittsfield, Mass., the son of Robert S. Stratton and the former Margaret (Lyons) Stratton Riley.

He received his education in the Bennington schools, and a bachelor's degree from Southern Vermont College in 1983.

A Vietnam veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1970 as a paratrooper, and received two Purple Hearts for gallantry in action with the 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning."

He worked for many years in the food service industry in the Atlanta, Ga., area before retiring and returning to Bennington.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Bennington.

He enjoyed fishing, stamp collecting, reading, cooking and playing cribbage.

Survivors include two sisters, Marlene Sauer of Corinth, N.Y., and Virginia Berard of Bennington; a brother, Robert Stratton of Bennington; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by six sisters and brothers, Janet M. Stratton, Helen Groesbeck, Ellen Welch, Donald H. Stratton, Mark J. Stratton, and Herb Stratton.

Graveside services will be held Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. in White Chapel Cemetery.
