BENNINGTON - Thomas Hage Parr, 76, died Saturday, June 7, 2014, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

He was born Feb. 4, 1938, in New Haven, Conn., a son of Norwegian immigrants, Albert Eide Parr and Ella (Hage) Parr.

He grew up in Bronxville, N.Y., and Manhattan. He graduated from the Bronx High School of Science before attending Yale, where he received his bachelor's degree in Art History.

He then served in Army intelligence and received an Army Commendation Medal for exemplary leadership and dedication during the Vietnam War. After returning from his military service he earned his master's degree from Columbia, where he later taught for a time.

Mr. Parr also lived in Stanford, Conn., Boston and Wilder before becoming a resident at the Vermont Veterans Home.

Tom is survived by his sister, Victoria Parr Neumann of Benson; a brother, Nils Albert Parr of Hanover, Penn.; and several nieces and nephews, including Christina Victoria Bolan of Essex Junction and Thomas D Neumann of Benson.

Burial will be held at a later time in the Evergreen Cemetery in South Strafford.
