NORTH SPRINGFIELD - Wayne Earle Golden, 78, died Monday, July 29, 2013, at the Mount Ascutney Hospice Unit in Windsor.

He was born Feb. 13, 1935, in Hartford, Conn., the son of Cecil (Jack) and Treva (Holden) Golden.

He grew up in Chester and attended Chester High School as a member of the Class of 1954.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany and France during the Korean conflict.

He married Lois Baldwin on Aug. 26, 1960, and they enjoyed more than 52 years together.

He was a member of American Legion Post 67 in Chester, and Loyal Order of the Moose #679 and BPOE #1560, both in Springfield.

He lived in North Springfield and helped with the construction of the North Springfield flood-controlled dam. He also worked at Great Eastern and was a machinist at Lovejoy Tool, where he worked for 30 years, retiring in 1997.

He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Golden of North Springfield; two daughters, Lori Johnson and Teri Sharpe, both of Springfield; six grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two sisters, Wanda Eubank of Andover, and Lani Williams of St. George, S.C.; a brother Jay Golden of North Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield. Ernest "Puggy" Lamphere will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery in North Springfield.

Friends may call Thursday, Aug. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the chapel. An Elks service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday.
