Bobbie W. Tate

Of Saint Augustine, FL, formerly of Rialto, CA passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2013. He was born August 22, 1928 in Canyon, TX to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Tate. He served twenty years in the United States Navy during WWII aboard aircraft carriers in the Pacific and participated in the Atom bomb testing at Bikini Atoll. He retired in 1965 as a Chief Petty Officer. He then worked at Kaiser Steel in Fontana, CA as a fireman and EMT until retiring in 1981 and remained in Southern California. He moved with his wife to Saint Augustine in 2010.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Opal N. Tate, his son Keith B. Tate, an infant son, Bobbie W. Tate, Jr., a great grandson, Heller D. Koch. His parents Alene and Roy Tate, a brother, Joe Tate and sister LouAnn Ford also preceded him in death. He is survived by a brother, J. A. Tate (Charlene) of Haines, AK, his daughter, Christee V. Smith, of Saint Augustine, his grandson, Jeffrey D. Koch (Jaime) of Orlando, his granddaughter, Elizabeth A. Williams (Kevin) of Tabernacle, NJ his grandson Bryan Tate (Kristi) of Sachse, TX and three great grandsons, Gage, Aiden and Ashton and two great granddaughters, Lauryn and Cameron
Visitation will be held Monday, from 10:30 – 11:30 am with Funeral Services beginning at 11:30am at Craig Funeral Home. Burial will take place at 2:00pm on Tuesday at Jacksonville National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org or 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville FL, 32256.
