James Joseph Palko
May 3, 1928 – Sept. 7, 2013
James J. Palko was born in Pottsville, PA. After graduating high school as a Pennsylvania State Champion in gymnastics, James served in the Army during the Korean War. He was the first in his family to graduate college from Penn State University. Shortly after graduation, he began his 28 yr. career at U.S. Steel in Ohio. He met his wife, Verna Lee Wilson, and was married in 1962.
After his retirement, James worked for the IRS and moved to San Bernardino. He was an active Volunteer at St. Bernardine's Hospital and the VA Hospital in Loma Linda.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Anna; his father John; sisters Dorothy and Margaret; brothers John (Frances) and Michael (Betty.)
He is survived by his wife of 51 yrs., Verna; daughters Barbara Bryan of Oakdale, CA and Carol of San Bernardino; sister Shirley Hudock (Francis) of Lancaster, PA; 4 nieces and 4 nephews.
Mass of a Christian burial is scheduled at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church 796 W. 48th St. San Bernardino, CA, on Monday September 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Riverside National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. To leave a message on James' Memorial Page, please visit www.bobbittchapel.com.
