Carol Wurst Kelly, 81
Carol Wurst Kelly of Denver, Colorado and Grey Eagle, Minnesota passed away at age 81 in her daughter's home. She was born on May 13, 1932 in Greenwald, Minnesota to Theodore Wurst and Louise (Weismann) Wurst. Carol attended P.S. 51 (St. Andrew's School), graduated from Melrose High School, attended Carlton College and received her BA in Art History from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. She owned and operated her own company, Career Consultants, Inc., until her retirement. Carol lived in the same home in Denver, Colorado for nearly 50 years. At the age of 78, Carol moved back to Minnesota and became a year round resident of Big Birch Lake. This was the place she had loved growing up and where she had so many fond family memories. The extended family has been gathering at Birch Lake since 1937. Carol worked for years as an advocate for children with mental and physical disabilities, including her work as a volunteer lobbyist to the Colorado legislature. She was inspired in this cause by the illness (encephalitis) of her youngest daughter Paula. Carol is survived by her children, Catherine (David) Olson and David (Tanja) Kelly; her grandchildren, Samantha and James Kelly; five nephews and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Paula; siblings, Bernice Jacobs, Robert Wurst and Corinne Wurst Schriver. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Monday, November 4, 2013 at HOLY NAME OF JESUS, 155 CR 24, Wayzata, Minnesota, with a gathering beginning at 10 AM.
