Sauk Rapids formerly of Wadena

Dec. 27, 1919 - April 24, 2014

The funeral service for Charles "Chuck" Beyer, of Sauk Rapids and formerly of Wadena, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Wadena with Pastor Stephen Meltzer officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena. Visitation will resume at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. At the age of 94, Chuck passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Home in Sauk Rapids, MN.

Charles "Chuck" was born to Gustave and Valeria (Porter) Beyer on December 27, 1919, in Deer Creek, MN. He served as a Sargent in the U.S. Army during World War II until his honorable discharge January 9, 1946.

Chuck married Ethel Mae Gilson on May 26, 1946, in Deer Creek. They made their home in Deer Creek and Wadena where Chuck will be remembered as a dedicated Supervisor of Building and Grounds at the Wadena School District until his retirement in 1982. He later became one of the few locksmiths in the area. He belonged to the VFW Post 3922 in Wadena, the Deer Creek Volunteer Fire Department and the American Legion in Deer Creek. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, and loved playing a good hand at cards!

 Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Gustave and Valeria; brothers Eugene and Norman Beyer; sisters & brothers-in-law Charlotte & Rueben Savaloja, Lucille Bertha & Don Olson, sister Norma Beyer; brother-in-law Ralph Maatta; and son-in-law Donald Haase.

 Survived by his devoted wife Ethel  of Sauk Rapids; daughter Marge Haase of Sauk Rapids; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister Esther Marie Maatta of Alexandria; sister-in-law Beatrice Beyer of Wadena; and many nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles' great-grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be Rich Beyer, Ray Beyer, Larry Olson, Gary Savaloja, Tim Savaloja, and Jon Glawe.

 Military honors will be provided by the Elmer Goche Post 3922, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wadena, MN.

 Burial will be in the Wadena Cemetery.
