A former minister of First Presbyterian Church, St. Cloud, (1966-1985), Pastor Emeritus, the Rev. Dr. Charles F. Stevens, 84, of Mesa, AZ passed away into the Lord's Eternal Care on Sunday, April 28, 2013, with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born on April 7, 1929 in Lenoir, North Carolina. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna Swanson Stevens, daughter Amy Stevens Jones (David) of Tempe, AZ, and son Charles Todd Stevens (Kelly) of Ahwatukee, AZ, 5 Grandchildren, Katherine and Rachael Jones, and Matthew, Connor, and Maya Stevens. Charles (nicknamed Moe) graduated from Culver Military Academy, Northwestern University in Civil Engineering, and McCormick Presbyterian Seminary in Chicago. He first served as Youth Minister at House of Hope Presbyterian Church in St. Paul MN, where he met his wife Donna. Next he was called to Virginia, MN, Hope Presbyterian Church, where the Jaysees of Virginia awarded him the "Outstanding Young Man of the Year" award for co-chairing a Speakers Bureau to encourage MN citizens to pass the "Taconite Amendment." In St. Cloud, he was President of the United Way for 2 years, President of his Kiwanis Club, and was active in Cursillo religious retreats. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Huron Presbyterian College in Huron, South Dakota. Each Christmas, Dr. Stevens and his congregation would present a 4 day Christmas pageant of stereophonic music and electronic lighting, plus an Easter Holy Week presentation of 2' high figures representing the life of Christ. A "Celebration of the Life of Moe Stevens" memorial service will be held on November 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. for friends and family.
