Everett "Pete" Hemmesch, 83

Sartell, Minnesota

April 23, 1931 ~ August 2, 2014

Everett "Pete" Hemmesch, 83, of Sartell, Minnesota passed away peacefully on August 2nd 2014.  He was comforted by his daughter in Virginia Beach, Virginia and surrounded by his family.

He was born to the late Joseph P and Annetta (Smith) Hemmesch in Melrose, Minnesota on April 23rd, 1931.

"Pete" as he was affectionately known spent his early life in Melrose, Sauk Centre, Willmar and Stillwater, where he graduated from High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Army & served from 1949 to 1954. He did a tour in Korea and was very proud to have served his country. Upon returning he attended The Teachers College, now known as St. Cloud State. He met and married Dorothy (McCoy) deceased of St. Paul and they moved to St. Cloud. He started his career at Nash Finch, but spent  many years as a salesman for  Hills Bros Coffee, where he was promoted and transferred to Southern California in 1975. His love of coffee and sales led him to Kansas City with Farmer Bros. Coffee and again back to So. California as National Sales Chain Accounts. Upon his retire- ment from Farmer Bros. Coffee he left California to reside in St.Cloud /Sartell.

Pete loved to golf, play cribbage, and play the slots.  He played and followed hockey throughout his life. He attended most Minnesota State high school hockey tournaments until just a few years ago. He was a proud season ticket holder of his beloved St. Cloud State "Huskies!" Pete loved to read books, especially history. He was a crossword puzzle wizard. Pete never met a stranger and had many friends around the U.S. due to his travel and gift of gab. Pete was the ultimate joke teller, and loved to play tricks on unsuspecting subjects, the life of the party.

Pete was preceded in death by his daughter Pamela (Hemmesch) Muniz, his sisters Kathleen Lahr, Mary Ann Allen, Priscilla Shaw and brother Joseph Hemmesch.

Left to cherish "Pete's" memory are his brother Donald (Carol) Hemmesch of Sartell, his daughter Debbie (Bill) Hemmesch Valentine of Virginia Beach, VA. Grandchildren Courtney, Chelsea and Chance Valentine of Virginia Beach, VA. Danielle and Kurt Muniz of Arcata, CA and Dana Point CA along with many relatives and friends.

A memorial service and gathering to celebrate Pete's life will be on September 7th from 3:30 -7:30 at the St. Cloud Eagle's Club 622. Burial will be private at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Association in St. Paul, Minnesota. Holloman-Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in Virginia Beach, VA provided crematory services.

In closing, Pete's love for life was far reaching. His infectious laugh and kind heart touched so many.  He loved his country and was proud to have served in the military. He set an outstand- ing example for his children and grandchildren through his dedication and commit- ment to providing for his family. His legacy and spirit will live on through the fond and loving memories we will share as family and friends gather during the memorial service.
