Florence M. Anderson, age 93, St. Cloud, MN, died Monday, February 11, 2013 at Talahi Care Center in St. Cloud, MN.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 15, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Salem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Rev. Wayne Anderson and Rev. Ben Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Mendota Heights, MN.
Florence was born March 19, 1919 in Minneapolis, MN to Oscar and Carrie (Edlund) Bodin. She married James W. Anderson on September 28, 1940 in Mora, MN.
Florence received AE and BS Degrees in Elementary Education from St. Cloud State University, an MA Degree in Library Science from the University of Minnesota and an EdD Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Minnesota. She taught in rural schools in Kanabec County, MN from 1936 to 1941 and from 1947 to 1950. From 1950 to 1960 Florence taught 1st and 2nd Grade at St. Paul Park, MN and from 1960 to 1969 was the media specialist at Moreland School in West St. Paul. In 1969 she accepted a position as Associate Professor of Literature at St. Cloud State University where she taught until her retirement in 1981. Florence was a guest professor at Nankai University in Tianjin, China on six different occasions between 1988 and 1999.
Florence was a member of SCSU President's Club, and Salem Lutheran Church since 1986 where she served on the Library Committee.
Florence was active in retirement, delivering lectures on China to churches, schools and public service groups. Florence also traveled extensively during her life having visited Western Europe, the Middle East, Asia, the Caribbean Islands, the South Pacific, and 46 states in the United States.
Survivors include her husband, James Anderson of St. Cloud, MN; daughter, Gayle (Roger) Jenni of Eagan, MN; two grandchildren, Madeline (Sean) Sjodin and Paul (Aleecia) Jenni and one great granddaughter, Siriana Sjodin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
