The funeral Mass for Sister Lorayne Andre will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2013, at the Sacred Heart Chapel, Saint Benedict's Monastery, St. Joseph, Minn. S. Lorayne died, age 91, at Saint Scholastica Convent on May 6, 2013. Inurnment will be in the monastery cemetery. Friends may call at Saint Scholastica Convent on Thursday, May 9, 2013, from 1-6 p.m. or for a Vigil Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Saint Benedict's Monastery. Visitation continues at 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral.

Born March 1, 1922, to Michael and Marie (Neumann) Andre at La Crosse, Wis., S. Lorayne attended Holy Trinity Grade School and Aquinas High School in La Crosse. She entered Saint Benedict's Monastery in St. Joseph, Minn., on June 18, 1946, was received into the novitiate June 17, 1947, and made first profession on July 11, 1948. She then moved to Eau Claire, Wis., as one of the founding Sisters of Saint Bede Monastery, where she made perpetual monastic profession on July 11, 1951, and celebrated her Golden Jubilee in 1998. In 2010, she again became a member of Saint Benedict's Monastery, when the two communities merged

S. Lorayne received a B.S. degree in education with minors in English and history at La Crosse State University (University of Wisconsin system). She earned an MA in English at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., and an MA in library science at the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh, Wis. She also attended Trinity College in Hartford, Conn; University of Maryland; University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis., and University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn. During several summers, she ministered in Columbia, S.C., and Cleveland, Ohio.

Her qualifications in teaching and librarianship were put to good use throughout S. Lorayne's life. She served as librarian and teacher of English and journalism in Eau Claire, Wis.; as English teacher and assistant librarian at St. Scholastica College, Duluth, Minn; and as librarian at Saint Bede Academy in Eau Claire, Wis., and Cretin High School in St. Paul, Minn. At Saint Bede Monastery, in Eau Claire, she served as librarian, community secretary and archivist, as well as secretary-treasurer for the Federation of Saint Benedict. In 2003, S. Lorayne retired to Clairemont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Eau Claire, Wis., moving, in 2010, to Saint Scholastica Convent in St. Cloud where she assisted in the library and liturgy office.

S. Lorayne is survived by her Benedictine community, niece and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bernard and her two sisters, Eleanore Main and Florence Smith.
