Richard T. Aune, 90

Richard Theodore Aune, age 90, St. Cloud, MN, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 30, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home Chapel, St. Cloud, MN.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.  Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, St. Peter, MN.

Richard "Dick" Aune was born on January 7, 1924 in Minneapolis to Herman Theodore  and Anna Christina "Chris" (Stein) Aune.

Dick was a veteran of WWII during which he served as a cannoneer in Germany. He received several medals for his service.  Following the war, he attended school at Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, MN then graduated from the U of M School of Architecture.

On August 7, 1948 he married the love of his life, Jean M. Gustafson, in St. Peter, MN. They were married almost 62 years.

As an architect, Dick began his career with Ellerbe Becket in Mpls., followed by private practice in Rochester and Fergus Falls, then in St. Cloud with Traynor, Hermanson, & Hahn Architects.

Always competitive, in his last years Dick particularly enjoyed playing dominoes with his friend Steven Whipple.

Survivors include his son Dr. Steven (Cathy) Aune of Wichita Falls, TX; daughter Susan Aune of St. Cloud, MN; two granddaughters- Elizabeth "Betsy" Bayliss of Tacomah, WA and Jody (David) Long of Boston, MA; two great grandchildren, Cameron and Ryan Long; niece Shelley (David) Latham of Castle Rock, MN; and cousin Martha (Gil) Hartlage of Brooklyn Center, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings- Derith Aune, Douglas Aune, and David Aune; wife, Jean; daughter Jerilyn Hanold Aune; and son Mark Aune.

The family thanks Generations Community Homes staff for their care of Richard. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
