Robert G. Porter, 63
April 23, 1949 - March 1, 2013
Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday March 6, 2013 at Unity Spiritual Center in Sartell, MN for Robert George Porter, age 63 of St. Cloud, MN. Reverend Barbara Winter Martin will be officiating. Inurnment will be at a later time. Visitation will be at the Unity Spiritual Center on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 4 PM to 8 PM and one hour prior the services on Wednesday at the Church.
Bob was born on April 23, 1949 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Melvin and Agatha (Klimek) Porter. He was a 1968 graduate of Babbitt High School. Bob was a U.S Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. Bob graduated from Vermillion Community College at Ely, MN and later attended both University of Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State University.
He married Brenda Jonas Skaj on August 8, 1998 in St. Cloud. Bob was employed by Reserve Mining Company in Babbitt, he later managed the bar at McRudy's Pub in St. Cloud, and he was a relay driver for the Minneapolis Star Tribune and the Fargo Forum for six years previous to his stroke in January of 2010. He enjoyed reading, knitting, crossword puzzles and sharing his vast knowledge of history.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda; children, Heather (JJ) Crosthwaite of Avon and Jesse (Tabetha Struzyk) Skaj of St. Stephen; two grandsons, Dylan and Wyatt; sisters, Valeria Crushshon of Little Canada, Nancy (Bill) Lake of Nashwauk and Twin sister, Bonita Porter Treanor, of Oakdale, MN, mother and father-in-law Rose and Arnold Jonas of Avon, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved dog, Sambuca.
Bob's family would like to give special thanks to the staff at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud for all their loving care.
