Bakersfield, California Formerly of St. Cloud

Roland Leo George (Rolly), 84, of Bakersfield California, passed away on December 9, 2013, after a long battle with cancer.

The funeral service, with full Marine Corp honors, will be held at 1:15 at the Bakersfield National Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Kern River Family Mortuary at 5:00 on December 16 followed by a rosary at 6:00. A funeral mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church at 10:00 on December 17.

Rolly was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota on April 11, 1929. He graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School and continued on to receive a degree in business and education from St. Cloud State University.

Rolly was married to Shigeko Ogawa in 1952; they were married 61 years.

Rolly served in the US Marine Corp for 23 years and worked as a bookkeeper for Apollo Insurance Agency until his retirement. He enjoyed shooting and working with guns as well as reloading ammunition. He was an active member of the National Rifle Association.

Rolly is survived by his wife Shigeko; his children Cieran, Angela (Guy), Monica (Halling), Eric, and Colette (Wedin); his grandchildren Scott, Brandon, Travis, Hana, Miranda, and Alycia; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Rolly is preceded in death by his parents Michael and Mary and his siblings Ben, Clinton, Milan, Vi, Irene, and Jean.
