The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2013, at the Sacred Heart Chapel, Saint Benedict's Monastery, St. Joseph, for S. Vivia Theisen, who died, age 87, on September 27, 2013, at Saint Scholastica Convent, St. Cloud, Minn. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery. Friends may call at Saint Scholastica Convent on Sunday, September 29, 2013, from 1-6 p.m., or for a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at Saint Benedict's Monastery. Visitation continues at 9 a.m. on Monday, September 30, until the time of the funeral.

S. Vivia (Doris) Theisen was born October 20, 1925, to John and Elizabeth (Tabery) Theisen in Wadena, Minn. She attended St. Anne's Grade School and Wadena High School. S. Vivia entered Saint Benedict's Monastery September 11, 1949; was received into the novitiate June 15, 1950; made first monastic profession on July 11, 1951, and perpetual monastic profession on July 11, 1954. She celebrated her golden jubilee in 2001 and 60th anniversary in 2011.

S. Vivia graduated from the College of Saint Benedict with a B.S in business education with minors in secondary education and philosophy. She earned an M.S. in business education with a minor in economics from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, N.D. She also studied at the University of Minnesota and St. Cloud State University.

The expertise gained through her studies was utilized in S. Vivia's ministries. She served in education, teaching business education and economics at the College of Saint Benedict, Saint Benedict's High School, and Cathedral High School, St. Cloud. She was employed in the business office at Saint Benedict's Monastery, College of Saint Benedict, St. Cloud Hospital and Saint Benedict's Senior Community Center. Other ministries in the College of Saint Benedict included serving as registrar and working in Clemens Library. At Saint Benedict's Monastery, S. Vivia served in the development and communications office and archives with special responsibility for the permanent art collection. In 2007, she moved to Saint Scholastica Convent where she participated in a ministry of community living and prayer.

S. Vivia is survived by her Benedictine community; four brothers: Rev. Eugene, MM, Maryknoll Retirement Center, Los Altos, Calif; Rev. Wilfred, OSB, St. John's Abbey, Collegeville, Minn.; Lyle, Silver Spring, Md.; John, San Diego, Calif; her only sister, Louise, St. Cloud; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers; James, Jerome and Clair.
