William L. Sorokie, 70

St. Cloud

March 11, 1944-April 15, 2014

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sauk Rapids for William L. Sorokie, age 70, of St. Cloud who passed away Tuesday at Country Manor Health Care Center in Sartell.  Rev. Paul Cloeter and Rev. Harvey Ehlers will officiate and entombment will be at Hilltop Mausoleum, Sauk Rapids.  Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church.  Trinity Lutheran prayers will be at 6:00 p.m., followed by Sauk Rapids VFW Post #6992 at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

William was born March 11, 1944 in Cook, MN to Nicholas & Mae (Patridge) Sorokie.  He graduated from Sauk Rapids High School in 1962 and entered the U.S. Navy where he served two tours of duty in Vietnam from 1962-1966.  William married Evora Lesse on June 17, 1967 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sauk Rapids.  He worked for NSP as the Lead Plant Equipment Operator at the Sherco Generating Station for over 30 years.  After his retirement, he worked 10 years part time at Tenvoorde Ford driving the shuttle van.  William was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Sauk Rapids VFW Post #6992.  He enjoyed fishing, cribbage, hunting whitetail deer, spending time on the family homestead, and helping his son Travis with his drag racing cars.

Survivors include his son, Travis (Jodi Hilger) of Sauk Rapids; former spouse and best friend, Evora Sorokie of Sauk Rapids; sister, Betty (Morris) Leander of Boulder, CO; and brother-in-law, Dan McGregor of La Jolla, CA.  William was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael "Sonny"; and sister, Shirley Sorokie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Cloud Honor Flight.
