Aloysius H. Nathe (Al)

August 4, 1920 - March 17, 2014


Aloysius Henry Nathe (Al) passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends.  Al, born in Minnesota, was a Marin County resident since 1950.  Al enjoyed a loving relationship and family life with his wife Eleanor who predeceased him in 1994.  His is survived by his children Donald, Anthony and Margaret, dear companion Elena Mandin, grandson Conrad and wife Kelly, and four great grandchildren.


Al was a graduate of the University of Minnesota.  He served as a naval officer in World War II including service on D-Day on Utah Beach.  He also served in the Pacific during the occupation of Japan.  Upon his return from WWII, Al obtained an MBA from the University of California Berkeley, in 1949.  Upon Graduation, he was active in Bay Area business firms including 20 years as an executive at Levis Strauss & Co. from which he retired in 1977.  Al loved to travel worldwide and to contribute his time to volunteer work with various business and charitable organizations.  His professional affiliations included president of the World Trade Club of San Francisco, active board member of the Stern Grove Festival, board member of the Snite Art Museum of the University of Notre Dame, retired Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve, member of the Knights of Malta, and member of several wine and food societies where he enjoyed friendships with many associates and fellow wine collectors.  An avid sports fan, Al enjoyed golf, and he supported college sports particularly at Cal and the University of Notre Dame.


The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in San Rafael at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014.  In lieu of flowers, Al prefers donations be made to your favorite charities.  Celebration of Al's life will be held at The French Club in San Francisco at 12:30 p.m.  Funeral arrangements are being handled by Mount Tamalpais Mortuary.
